Surprisingly easy install! Plan on spending another $100 - $150 for the deep cycle battery.

"The piping tree is fully assembled to the M53 pump. You only need to insert the 12VDC back-up pump into its connection collar and tighten one hose clamp. I strongly suggest you check unimpeded float travel for the 12VDC pump. You may need to slightly rotate the float switch mounting tab, and/or the worm screw housing of the hose clamp securing the 12VDC pump to the piping tree, so that the float is clear of striking the main pump's float swith housing or the hose clamp worm screw housing. The back-up pump will still operate correctly with minor interferrence but will generate a "Float Error" message on the control panel of the charger."

Easy Install

"I orderd one of these primary + back-up assemblies on Sunday evening. I received it on Tuesday as promised, and installed it on Wednesday. Shockingly easy install, under an hour! Two comments of post install changes I needed to make. First involves clearances for the emergency pump float; I needed to slightly rotate the float, maybe 5 degrees, so that the float will not strike the main pump switch housing after the back-up pump cycles. This float striking or hanging-up the main switch housing will result in a float error. Likewsie, ensure the float doesn't strike the worm screw housing on the band clamp either. Second suggestion is to replace any existing receptacle in the outlet powering the pump. My outlet was 40 years old, power plug inserted with medium force, but the recepticle internals were too weak to provide secure power to the main pump. After multiple mis-fires of pump not starting, and being awoken by night-time emergency pump alarms, my wife spotted the slight looseness of the receptacle (honestly, it still provided medium resistance when plugging-in), the receptacle was replaced with a a new device (use a $2.49 receptacle, not the 39 cent variety!), and problem was solved."
